The Brief
The goal for this kitchen was to balance craftsmanship, warmth, and modern functionality—rooted in old-world tradition while still supporting the convenience of contemporary living.
The homeowners were drawn to artisanal materials and custom details that bring depth, texture, and authenticity to the space. At the same time, the kitchen needed to function as a highly practical environment for everyday cooking and entertaining, with professional-grade appliances, thoughtful storage, and modern conveniences integrated seamlessly into the design.
The Transformation
The design layers handcrafted elements with modern performance features.
A handcrafted plaster hood anchors the space, surrounded by cabinet shrouds that soften the cabinetry and reinforce the room’s architectural character. Custom arched mahogany cabinet doors with cremone bolt hardware reference traditional European craftsmanship while adding warmth and richness.
Locally made hand-poured concrete tiles introduce texture and subtle variation, while ogee-edge countertops add refinement through their sculptural profile.
Modern functionality is integrated throughout the kitchen with professional-grade appliances, highly organized custom cabinetry, instant hot filtered water, dishwasher drawers at the bar, and a dedicated wallpaper-lined pantry for small appliance storage.
